How to care for Ahinsa shoes

  • Use a shoehorn when putting on the shoes and don’t step down on the heel part.
  • Don’t leave the shoes out in the sun for long.
  • Every material needs different maintenance and cleaning. You can find the details on the page about How to properly care for your shoes.
  • Always wear Ahinsa shoes with socks. Have you heard about our barefoot bamboo socks?
  • As soon as you take the shoes off, check to see if they’re moist on the inside. If they are, dry them before wearing them again.

Read our maintenance tips so your Ahinsa shoes last as long as possible.

Choosing the right size

A good pair of shoes shouldn’t limit or constrict you. They shouldn’t be loose on the foot either. How should you pick ones that will fit you?

  • Try them on with the socks that you normally wear.
  • When trying them on, fully fasten/lace them up and put your weight down on them. When lacing up, the heel will settle in the back part of the shoe.
  • Stand up in the shoes, lift the heel of one foot and put your weight on the toes. The toes will shift slightly forward and you’ll find out whether there’s enough free space left for them.
  • Take a few steps in the laced-up/fastened shoes.
  • Leave 0.5-1 cm of free space in front of the toes. But, this extra space should never trip you up while walking.

Safety warning

Ahinsa shoes aren’t necessarily for everyone. There are situations, places and diagnoses that they’re not suitable for. That’s why you should always consult your doctor.

Our shoes are not made for children up to 3 years of age and for people with a foot length under 16.5 cm.

Is a child (underage) that you’re responsible for wearing these shoes? Make sure they also adhere to all the instructions that we’ve summarized on this page.

Several other safety recommendations:

  • Ahinsa shoes are made for ordinary walking on a solid surface.
  • Always choose the right size and type of footwear.
  • Always choose a shoe type that corresponds to the activity you’re planning to use them for.
  • You can wear Ahinsa shoes in wet conditions, but be careful. The characteristics of the sole will change on a wet surface and can slip. This especially applies to wet pavement, rock and other smooth surfaces.
  • If it’s wet outside, waterproof the shoes before using them. We’ve tested this water-proofing spray on Ahinsa shoes; other water-proofing products can harm the material.
  • Don’t step on sharp, wet, unstable or otherwise dangerous surfaces and objects.
  • Ahinsa shoes are not made for driving cars. The shoes are wider than normal, which could lead to stepping down on two pedals instead of one.
  • Ahinsa shoes are not orthopedic, medical or work footwear.

Ahinsa shoes are designed for your feet to function in them as if you were (nearly) barefoot. That’s why you should step down lightly, quietly and sensitively as if you were actually walking barefoot.

Our tip: Learn to walk healthily in them with the e-book Step by Step to a Healthy Stride.

What can healthy walking do for you?

The proper walking technique can have many rehabilitation benefits, for example:

  • brain stimulation
  • activation of long muscle chains that pass throughout the whole body
  • activation of the so-called deep stabilization system (deeply stored muscle layers)
  • maintaining joint mobility
  • prevention of arthrotic and vascular-type problems
  • decreasing the risk of injury
  • improvement of balance and coordination
  • higher performance

Each body is different, and that’s why this information doesn’t necessarily have to apply to you. Always consult your doctor. Also, walking in Ahinsa shoes itself isn’t necessarily suitable for everyone.

Our tip: Did you know that healthy walking isn’t just a given? Most of us have to relearn it. The e-book Step by Step to a Healthy Stride will help you.

Accountability for defects and returning products

We’re doing our utmost so that Ahinsa shoes will last you for a long time and bring you joy at every step. Still have a reason to return them? Please make the return claim where you bought the shoes. If you purchased in our e-shop, you’ll find the details for returns on this page.

What you should know before returning:

  • Accountability for defects is not linked to lifespan, which manifests itself in normal wear and tear after regular use.
  • Accountability for defects does not relate to problems caused by improper use.
  • Every material that is used has a different lifespan, different characteristics and different requirements for maintenance.
  • Wrinkling of the external material where the shoe bends while walking is natural – this is not a defect.

If you are returning the shoes, please fill out this online warranty complaint form and send it together with a photo of the shoe defect. We will inform you by email about the receipt of your complaint and its solution. Make your return claim without delay immediately after discovering the defect.

If you purchased the shoes elsewhere than in our e-shop or store in Londýnská street in Prague, please get in touch with the seller with your complaint. Please refer to our terms and conditions for more information on complaints.
